This is a super easy DIY needing only 4 items to create:

Let's get started!

Step 1: Before you begin, take out your supplies and grab a bowl to pour some rice into. For this DIY, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of dry rice per car freshener.

Step 2: To start, add about 10 drops of the essential oil of your choice to the bowl of rice. If you’re creating a variety of scents, grab a separate bowl and mix each scent separately. For ours, we used a lavender essential oil that will help calm you while you drive!

Step 3: Stir your rice and essential oil mixture well with a spoon or transfer the mix into a mason jar and shake well. We found it easier to mix the two ingredients by shaking them in a jar to fully incorporate the scent.

Step 4: Since this freshener is kept in a transparent organza bag, we wanted to add some decoration to our car fresheners. We chose to use a large chunky glitter that showcases TrypScore’s main colors of purple, pink, and blue! We went with about 1 tablespoon per car freshener. This is a step that you can really get creative with; choose a decorative element that matches your vehicle, the scent, or your personality!

Step 5: Test the scent of your car freshener now that everything is mixed together.  Smell the mixture from about a foot away. If it’s not strong enough, slowly add a few more drops of your essential oil at a time until you reach the desired strength of scent. If you accidentally make it too strong, you can also add more rice. We ended up at about 20 drops of lavender oil per freshener.

Once you’ve found the perfect balance, use a spoon to scoop the mixture into the organza bags.

Step 6: Pull the strings tight and tie the strings into a double knot to make sure it stays closed.

Step 7: You’re done! Hang it in your vehicle or gift it to a friend. Enjoy your custom scent!
